Growing Company Saves Mid-West DOT $55,000 Over Two Week Period

Ephrata, PA February 15, 2006 — Horizon Signal Technologies assisted a Department of Transportation in the Mid West by utilizing a portable traffic control system capable of handling multiple phases of traffic for an annual rally. The specific project called for a safe and cost-effective solution which would effectively control an intersection during a week in 2006. Not only did the solution surpass the DOT’s needs, it saved them $55,000 in the process.

In a town of about 4,000, an annual festival brings roughly 600,000 people to the area. In years past, other traffic control solutions have been used with little positive effect. One intersection in particular is typically congested and frequently dangerous. The DOT had several requirements for the project — it needed to utilize a turn signal, have a manual control option and be extremely cost effective. According to one DOT official, the portable traffic solution provided by Horizon Signal “worked perfectly” and with it, “traffic moved effectively through what was previously a dangerous and confusing intersection.” The savings realized in 2005 has led the DOT to purchase additional portable traffic control devices in preparation for this year’s festival.

Over the past 15 years, Horizon Signal Technologies has established itself as the nation’s leading provider of innovative, portable traffic control solutions. With an unmatched commitment to exceeding their Customer’s expectations, Horizon Signal is changing the industry standard by providing high quality, versatile and dependable solutions backed by solid Customer service and Support.

After Hurricane Wilma last year, motorists struggled for weeks at dangerous intersections whose traffic lights were knocked out by the storm. Tonight, Pembroke Pines will roll out a machine that could prevent that from happening again. The police department will demonstrate its new Horizon Signal portable traffic-control device at 8 p.m. tonight at the intersection of Douglas Road and Johnson Street.

The Horizon Signal allows police and construction crews to safely control and direct traffic. It is a fully portable traffic light that eliminates physical harm to traffic directors and protects lives and property, according to the company’s web site, horizonsignal.com. The device’s technology provides precision timing of traffic signals with no need for external cables or power supplies, according to the web site.

The signal also provides numerous traffic safety devices, including portable traffic signals, speed control devices and roadside radar. The device retails for $14,000 to $17,000 each, according to Jay Hunter, a regional sales manager for the company.
